MPL Malaysia Season 18 reached a peak of 774,511 concurrent viewers, the second-highest figure in the league’s history, Moonton’s newsroom reports, citing Esports Charts. The season closed with Selangor Red Giants beating Team Rey 4–3 in a Grand Final that needed a seventh game, giving SRG a sixth league title in a row.
A final that went the distance
No MPL Malaysia Grand Final had gone to seven games since Season 12. Team Rey went out early in the Season 17 Playoffs, one season before this run to the final. Both teams now hold Malaysia’s places at the M8 Main Stage in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Michael “Arcadia” Bocado, the SRG head coach, gave Team Rey credit “for stepping up their game and giving us such an exciting challenge.” He pointed out that SRG were third at the M7 World Championship, adding: “this time, we want to go further.”
Viktor Proniakin of Esports Charts said TikTok made up 57.7% of watch time, its fifth season in a row of growth on that platform.
Crowds and honours
Stadium Juara in Kuala Lumpur was sold out for the final. Away from Kuala Lumpur, Mamak Juara watch parties showed the final to fans from Johor to Sarawak.
The Season 18 Legenda award went to Aiman “Laphel” Kamal, who calls, analyses and hosts MLBB broadcasts in Malaysia. With a record 20 nominees, the award was tied to MLBB’s 10th anniversary, and Laphel took home a Chery Tiggo Cross HEV as his prize.
Selangor Red Giants Academy (SRGA) were honoured on stage too, after winning MAL MY Season 6. That title earns them a place at the first edition of MCT SEA, where they get another chance to reach M8.
M8 starts with the Wild Card in Bangkok, Thailand, then moves to the Main Stage in Istanbul. The M8 field of sixteen teams will chase the world title and split prize money of US$1 million. Every Season 18 result is on the MPL MY Season 18 page, and the full release is on Moonton’s newsroom.
